Sector Focus: B2B SaaS

Biography:

Adam’s role is to enable companies to scale up and become market leaders. He has developed a 5 element framework that he uses with businesses developed throughout his executive & plural career. The elements deliberately cut across organisational boundaries, success comes from constant alignment around all of them. The elements are: Purpose; Focus; Customer Success; Innovation & Team.

Adam has been in technology for over 40 years, ever since he first started to code as a teenager before studying Computer Science, fascinated by the power of tech to change the world for the best. He spent a decade at Accenture learning how to look after clients and to run complex projects and sales campaigns, before becoming a head-hunter at Russell Reynolds helping 200+ technology firms and investors to build their leadership teams and boards. In the 26 years he spent working in professional services, Adam developed a thorough understanding of what a good business setup looks like and brought his experiences together as CEO of SaaS HR business Fairsail, which grew from 13 people to 200+ in 4 years. Fairsail raised angel funding and growth capital before its acquisition by Sage plc for £115m cash (12x rev).

Adam “went plural” in 2018, shifting his focus to help more businesses become market leaders, and he does so through a seasoned portfolio of roles across the sector. He has served as board member of many B2B SaaS businesses since then and has been involved with 4 successful exits. He has also held board roles for Tech Nation and ScaleUp Institute.

Humbly describing himself as “still just a lad from Birmingham”, Adam also authors the Lobster Tales, a written LinkedIn series in which he shares his experience, dos and don’ts and lessons on how to best build, grow and lead a business to success. In addition to SaaS he is a keen road cyclist.

Adam joined ScaleUp Group in 2017 as his first plural role, and is frequently speaking at our CEO Forums and webinars, helping us to discover and mentor the next Global Champions in tech.
